The Roxbury Police and Explorer car show is a show that is held locally to raise money for the township Explorers. It is a weekly car show that generates a lot of publicity in the town. There are a lot of local hot rod clubs, and shops who put out a lot of older cars and hot rods each year and this show is one of the best shows for these guys to go out and meet and talk about old times. The show usually gets a crowd of around 130 cars and trucks. On a good night almost 200 cars and trucks are crammed into the parking lot, and sometimes squeezed into the next parking lot. After work myself and some of the guys usually head down to take a look at some of the old cars and shoot the breeze with some of the locals. I was able to bring out my uncles 1964 ½ Mustang this time so it made for a good time. After work I met up with my bosses father and he followed me down in his 70 Nova. The Mustang had just gotten finished by a local shop that it had been at for almost 2 years though some tough times. It was originally my grandfather’s car so my uncle wanted it to be perfect. When we pulled into the show a lot of people came up to me and were talking to me about the Mustang and just asking some general questions. Its cool to go to a show where everybody is real friendly and willing to discuss things. I like to cover the local shows because I know that there are other states, towns, counties out there that do the same type of thing. I wouldn’t mind seeing some of the other local shows covered because it gives you a good idea of what’s out there, and what other people are building. So if you are wondering what’s going on in Jersey here is some coverage from a local old car and rod show. Enjoy.Doug Large
