Now we all know that this sport we’ve come to love is one that is easy to get involved with. Danny found this out after being around his friends and the customizing world for about the past ten years. After his last two rides, a '91 300ZX and an '85 Trans Am, one would not expect what was about to come out of Mr. Hernandez. About four years ago, Danny decided that it was time to purchase something that he could use to get the low low look he desired. The vehicle he chose was a '96 C1500 Chevy Extra-Cab, which he purchased back in February of '96. The build-up would take a long four years, but, in the end, be worth all the blood and tear. Danny decided to go with this ride because he was tired of the cars he had been building and wanted something he could completely change from stock to show. With the help of his friends he was able to do that. After all, friends don’t let friends drive stock!
Now the correct thing to do once you purchase one of these bad-ass trucks is to start playing with the body. With Danny, the choice of what to do seemed obvious. The first thing to do would be to drop the body about 3 ½-inches, which was done by the pro’s at R Customz. Now that the body would lay flat, he needed something to give it lift. For this, a bag set up, along with Bell Tech spindles, were added to get the adjustabilty of the suspension. Danny decided to turn to MIC of Plascentia, CA to box the frame and allow everything to lay flat. Along with the boxed frame, the crew of MIC also installed a triangulated 4-link.
Since the stance was now taken care of, it was time to get the body looking just as good. To achieve this, Danny went to Doug’s Custom paint and body of Chatsworth, CA. While there, a Trenz phantom insert was installed into the grille. When it came to actual body mods, the decision was made to do away with the taillights and weld in a Sir Michael’s steel roll pan, with LED lights. Also while there, Doug's shaved the bed seams along with the tailgate handle, hood and smoothed the locks and door handles to make them keyless. After the mods, the full-size was painted back to it's stock color, Indigo blue.
