So when it came to building this 1992 Toyota pickup, Hendrix knew what it would take to build a full show truck that not only took home trophies but was completely functional as well. Acquiring the truck from a friend who in turn got it from another friend for a mere $1500, this Toy had already been body dropped on a stock suspension, giving Hendrix a decent start already. Starting with the chassis and suspension, Hendrix and Rob Rodell began up front with the addition of Cando upper control arms, Superior drop spindles, Firestone Air bags, and some Slammer shocks. Not wanting to be outdone, the rear received a hand built four link, which places the rear bags on the bars themselves. A notch was used in the frame rails to allow for the axle clearance while a custom tube shock mount and long travel off road shocks were used for both ride comfort and a little flair. The transmission crossmember and gas tank were both raised as well for both clearance and safety purposes. Providing air to the rear bags, two Thomas compressors pump air to the SMC valves, allowing this truck to move with a flick of the switch. Setting off the new stance, 19” Boyd Coddington billets keep this truck planted to the pavement quite nicely. Once the body drop was finally put to use, the truck was turned over to Mike Stewart and Kustom Werx to complete the body modifications. Wanting a clean, yet functional custom, the truck was tastefully shaved, eliminating the marker lights, turn signals in the bumper, cowl vents, taillights, and the tailgate was skinned with a Grant Kustomz tailgate skin complete with body line. Rather than traditionally shaving the door handles, GM rear door handles were molded in for a practical, yet stylish appearance. Lokar Leds in the rear allowed the truck to remain road legal while the Leer 100x shell harks back to Hendrix’s long tenure in the minitruckin’ world. Once all of the body work was complete, the guys at Kustom Werx sprayed the truck with House of Kolor True Blue Pearl, Tangelo Pearl, Sunset Pearl, Ice Blue Pearl, and PPG GM Pewter to create the custom two-tone look broken up with some graphics that also seem to hark back to the early days of the scene. With the outside massaged and painted to perfection, Hendrix and Cy Fair Upholstery got to work on the interior to make the inside of this Toy just as clean as the exterior. Going for that simple, yet clean look once more, the dash was dyed black while the seats were wrapped in black “pleather.” Other little goodies added to the interior include a series of air gauge and an Autometer air/fuel ratio gauge, a Cando Specialties billet gauge cover, and a Naiser Racing steering wheel. Knowing that he wanted to actually drive this truck, a nice stereo system was installed behind the seats. Using a Sony head unit to control the system, Rockford Fosgate 6 ½” mids and 1” tweeters provide actual sound over
