Slamboree
Pleasures Trucks and Compacts present the 10th Annual Slamboree to benefit American Diabetes Association. This year's event had a change of date and location. Held at the local college in Norman, Oklahoma August 23rd and 24th ended up being a good change of pace for the Pleasures crew.
As usual with this show, I flew in early Friday and my ventures began at Hooters where a few of us would drink down some beers before heading to the show grounds. Once prepped we went to the grounds where we would chat with those already rolling in and I'd venture around to say hi to other Pleasures members. Once the meet and greet was complete Brent would proceed to drive me to my hotel room and then we'd hit the liquor store on the way back to the show to pick up some Captain Morgan. With 2 fifths complete brent would head home and I'd head across the street to another hotel where many of the attendee's would be still up drinking. Although much of it was a blur, I remember kicking it with AJ from The Rim Shop and Mark from Ekstensive Metal works. They would proceed to feed me alcohol and that's all I could really tell you.
As the next morning arrived (130 pm) Kevin from Pleasures would come pick my sorry ass up to get me to the show. Not feeling all that great and with the heat pounding they were nice enough to let me use one of the golf carts to cover the show in. I'd meet up with Chas and we'd split the show duties to get things covered faster. The turn out was great and had high quality as usual with lots of venders there selling anything from DVD's, to T-shirts to bags. As the day went on a thunderstorm came in so everyone gathered up and headed to there hotels to get ready for the cruise set up for the night. See Pleasures is all about showing everyone a good time, so with this in mind they proceeded to get a parade permit so that we could drag all night long down one of the main streets of Norman, but we'll get to that in a bit.
When we got back to the hotel everyone sat around watching a little bit of Shallow Hal then we moved onto the pool and hot tub. With the relaxing complete we all (About 24 of us) headed to Joe's Crab Shack for some grub where Chas would some how offend every waitress in the restaurant. Feeling much better after eating, Ronnie from Phlat Out would drop Chas off at his truck and then we'd all head to the cruise.
Once at the Cruise we'd bust out the camera's in hopes of catching all of the dragging that was going on. It was cool, the cops for the most part just sat and watched everyone dragging and only got heated when the idiot kids decided that burnouts where the cool thing. At one area they were even throwing down transmission fluid to get better burn outs. Idiots, I tell you they are everywhere! Once under control dragging continued for most of the night and everyone had a killer time.
That night a few of us decided to jump the fence and kick it into the hot tub till about 3am where I'd head back to the room and get some much needed rest for the next day. As we arrived back at the show grounds many people hadn't arrived as most stayed out very late having fun at the hotels and the cruise, but as the day went on the grounds filled up again. Kevin, Chas and myself stayed busy all day doing features and getting photos of miscellaneous items. At one point Chas and myself drove the Golf cart out to the by way to get a dead armadillo to put in front of Scooby's dually fender (last year he hit one on the way to the show from Louisiana). That shit was funny as people would see it and either freak or think it was fake. With awards Pleasures made them pretty much from scrap to save money so that more would go towards the cause and the best of's where very unique as it had a photo of your ride with the trophy (for instance, interior pic with the trophy for best interior). B.A.D. came out once again with the Best of Car and Best of Truck trophies, which went to Kevin McCanlies and Scooby. Both well deserved.
As every year, this was a badass weekend and I can't wait till next years event.
