I got to thinking the other day about how much the Car Audio industry has changed. I remember the days of big systems and massive amounts of subs installed into the littlest truck possible. I can remember seeing Jerry Sterling's Yellow Toyota at a Thunder on Wheels show with (16) 15" Rockford subs or Vergil Williams " Freddy's Nightmare" truck loaded down with subs and standing in Aw as they went thru the line hoping to be the first person EVER to break the 150Db mark. It seems today that car audio has become to commercialized. Maybe it's just me, but what happen to working hard and paying for the stuff you are installing in your ride? It seems everywhere I turn today and start talking to someone I hear " XYZ Audio is my Sponsor" I mean where is the fun in working a few extra shifts for that new amp or picking up a grass cutting job to buy another head unit that just came out onto the market. It seems that No one is paying for there stuff anymore and that the entire show scene has become give me, give me, give me and what can you do for me. Don't get me wrong I'm all for Joe's Car Audio getting some free equipment to build a demo vehicle for there store. But for the average Sam to get a UPS truck load of equipment delivered to their door and not have to shell out one dime for it and they don't even work for a car audio shop or their not even directly involved in a car audio industry is just plain wrong. I just see the system of sponsorships being abused by people taking the equipment that there supposed to install in there ride and selling it either before it gets installed or shortly there after and pocketing the entire proceeds. I know what your going to say not everyone does this and not everyone abuses the system but for those that do you are a major reason the prices of audio products have went thru the roof. Your also the reason that shops now are loosing the benefit of building that demo ride because you have went out and received some product and then sold it leaving the car audio rep pissed because he didn't reap the rewards that was promised to him in the bill of false good you sold him. I've heard every line in the book when I was in the car audio business. If you hook me up I will attend shows and will be in the booth and these are the ones that come time to go to a show they cant get off work, or there ride is tore apart or there sick you name it we heard it.

I just wish people would stop abusing the system and work and pay for there equipment instead of expecting someone to give them something in return for nothing. For those of you that have received items and are fulfilling your commitment to the company you received it from my hats off to you but to the bum that's gets the stuff and sells it or beats the company out of it. You are the problem and you are the reason that the system is being abused. This is not just a car audio issue. It's a wide spread issue among ever aspect of the custom scene and it's growing out of control. Pretty soon companies are going to grow tired of being taken advantage of and rewards that we take for granted will go away. Well until next month! Ben Husser
