Summer Slamfest
Summer Slamfest
When I first heard about this show and made plans to attend it, it was at the same place it was last year. But about 20 days prior to the show the whole plan got dumped. The show was originally planned to be at the Farmington Drag way like it has been for years. A few "investors" who feel they have the knowledge to do a show recently purchased the track. So 20 days before the show date, the new track owners informed Walter and the crew at Outlaw Imports that the event reservation had been canceled. Even though they had signed to keep all 2003 contracts valid, they still canceled the event. Having less than 3 weeks to work something else out, Walter quickly booked part of the Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC. Which fortunately was only a few miles down the road. The following 3 weeks was very hectic. They had to get new trophies, send out all new flyers, etc.
After meeting up with a few local guys that Sunday morning, we headed out for the 2-hour drive to the show. About an hour into the drive, the guy behind me quickly pulled into the emergency lane without warning. After we all got stopped, we found out that he had completely shredded an 18" tire and had forgot his spare tire and jack at his house. Luckily one of the other guys with us had a spare that fit. The closest jack was in my car about ¾ mile up the road so I had to teach Gus (who had the flat) that due to the fact that he had air bags on his Saturn, he didn't need a jack. He reached in and lifted the car and dumped the opposite corner from the flat and we changed out the wheel. After we got back on the road, one guy short due to the fact that Gus went back home on his donut, we made up for lost time and hurried to the show. When we pulled into the show, it was already so crowded that it was hard to find a good spot. Once there and I had my car clean and the tent set up, it was time to make my rounds and talk to a few friends I haven't seen much this show season since my car has been tore down and to start taking pictures. Once there for a while, I got up with Walter, the show promoter and found out that the "investors" decided to keep a show at the track and take his business. Yet the funny part is they only had about 10 entries! LOL Every one made the move to the park even with only 20 days notice.
Due to the VERY unusual situation, Walter and the Outlaw Imports crew still managed to draw a bigger than expected crowd and had an excellent show. For more info on the situation and to check out upcoming shows put on by this crew, check out www.OutlawImports.com and make sure you don't miss any of these guys shows.
