This summer Brandi and I have been busier then ever between covering shows, and trying to compete at shows. I knew at the beginning of the summer that things would be hectic around the Gulow household. What I didn't expect was that my 6 year old would become as knowledgeable on worldly things as he has. Nicholas has been involved in going to shows, and being around MiniTruckers since before he could walk. This accounts for some of his traits he's developed thus far. Being at shows with Brandi, Lance and I he's gotten a taste for what to take pictures of and what not to. He knows the difference between bags, and juice. He knows the difference between those that can drag, and those that can't. While at one show last year he was caught on tape taunting people to drag it. It may not be nice, but to watch someone get heckled by a 5 year old as to why they can't drag is priceless. Nicholas has also started to develop his own sense of what's cool, and what isn't. Dragging cool, seeing someone's neon tubes hanging down, not cool. He's not one to sit on the sidelines when it comes time to clean a ride either. A couple years ago at NOPI he cleaned his stroller top to bottom, then sat down in it and passed out in true minitrucker style. He doesn't ride in a stroller anymore, but is still pretty active when it comes time to clean at a show. MiniTruckin like anything else in life that you could be caught up in has a lifestyle that seems to go with it. Shows, girls, half naked girls, fully naked girls, trucks, naked girls, and so goes the list. The first time I noticed the lifestyle rubbing off on Nicholas was at a Hooters in Atlanta, GA about 3 years ago. The waitress, a nicely stacked girl was taking the orders of the 25 or so people that were sitting at the table when things all of a sudden got real quite. Everybody stopped talking to watch Nicholas as he stared directly down the waitress' shirt. At this point the girl noticed what was taking place and kind of chuckled a bit, she quickly took the rest of the orders and walked away.

Nicholas turned, faced me, stuck his tongue out, and then proceeded to make a noise that implied he liked what he saw. It took about 5 minutes for people to stop laughing. Since that incident there's been several occasions similar to that. He's even locked our friends out of the house to mack on their girlfriends. Being Nicholas' dad, and watching him flirt with girls, and talk about girls still did not prepare me for what's happened this summer. At 6 he has girls mothers that call the house so the daughters can talk to him. Then the other day Brandi and I were in his room with him when he starts talking about "Hotties." According to Nicholas a "Hottie" is as follows. Parents: Nicholas what's a "Hottie"?Nicholas: You know a girl that's pretty, smart, and has nice private parts.Parents: Private parts?Nicholas: Yeah you know, those things on mom's chest.Parents: Really?Nicholas: Oh, and nice bottom parts too.At that point as the parent there isn't a whole lot you can say. The point was further made when just 3 days ago we watched him in the front yard trying to work some game on one of the neighbor girls. "Hey, hey shorty, let me holla at you." "That's a nice bike you got." "Yeah this is where I live, yeah our truck drags." The whole time he's got his pimp daddy stance on, and is acting so cool. Part of me thinks it's funny that he's got game at young age. The rest of me wants to take and lock him away until he's 20. All in all, being a dad is way cool, and I wouldn't change it for the world. Bring on the shows, bring on the women, and bring on the times when kids visions are better blocked.
