Eagle One - Del Mar Rod & Custom Nationals
For the 3rd year in a row The GoodGuys presented The Eagle One - Del Mar Hot Rod and Custom Nationals at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in California on April 4th, 5th & 6th. This 3 day event welcomed in nearly 2000 top notch vehicles of all kinds from all over the country, the only stipulation being nothing newer than '64.
Now these weren't just a bunch of old cars and trucks, oh hell no…. just about every vehicle there was badass, has been on a magazine cover or could be and worth $80,000 or MORE! Some pushing the $200,000 mark. Most of these cars are designed and built from the ground up by highly skilled (expensive) fabricators, with every piece being hand crafted. The detailing alone was incredible.
I cruised the show Sunday, the last day of this drool fest and was lucky enough to run in to Chip Foose. If you don't know who Chip is, he designs those bitchin' wheels with his name on them plus he's one of the top custom car designers/builders in the country. He worked next to Boyd Coddington for years as he built some his wild and famous show cars. Still, as huge as he is, he was very cool and more than happy to just hang out and talk with me.
Most of us will never have the greenbacks to build a vehicle of this caliber, but you owe it to yourself to hit a Good Guys show if there's ever one near you, these are "real" show vehicles in every sense of the word.
So until you win the lottery just be satisfied looking at the pictures and finding some cool ideas you can steal and incorporate into your own "Masterpiece"
Later,
Dave Clarke
