Import Expo - Dallas, Tx
What kind of show is better than one that is worthwhile right in your own backyard? Actually make it the Dallas Convention Center and we will consider it close enough. And that is exactly what the DFW area was given when Import Expo rolled into town May 3rd. For those of you who have never made this show, it is one of the few that can fill rooms and rooms full of some of the slickest imports, sexiest women, and best entertainment all in one.
Once again this weekend proved to be no exception. Kevin and I were actually relieved for a change to not have to make a cross country trip to a show that actually throws down some serious cash and trophies. We slept in a little later, drove a little slower, and didn't stress quite as much about all the "what ifs" that seem to follow us on road trips. Smooth sailing it was until we made it to the convention center and tried to find a place to park an enclosed trailer. Sure the night before during set up was no problem, we could pull right into the show and didn't mess with it, but the next day was a different story.
We rolled in about 9:00 am to find that all the parking garages around had the height restriction bars which prevented our trailer from finding anyplace nearby. We looked into the distance parking and decided all the crap we had to carry was more of a pain than anything (and no it wasn't my purse). We finally settled on some gravel parking behind the main building that looked way off limits, but hey the gate was open and that fearsome phrase "tow at owner's expense" was no where to be found. Fair game and that's exactly what we did.
Small feats accomplished, it was show time. Of course the razzle dazzle of all the Expo's followed it from what we knew in Houston. Main stage flaunted its spinning DJ's and a local rap group, The Grifters, challenged the beats with some pretty cool rhymes. DT Motorwerks had rolled out the ramps for the skateboard and bike show and were already warming up for the rest of the day. We rolled through 2 lines of rides as far as we could see passing through the fire marshal and the classing lanes to find their way to the perfect parking spot. Again, Expo proved itself by attracting some of the biggest and nicest rides around.
Of course the people that make these rides what they are were in full force as well. Phoenix Gold and Live Wire Audio and Video showed off some of there new products with some of their best imports. Leather Trim Limited Interiors and Synthetic Designs set up a full booth to showcase some amazing interiors and craziest graphic designs in the scene. Not to forget those guys and girls that put out and build these insane engines like Alamo, Kentek Motorsports, and Trapspeed. Ahh - a day of entertainment, sick rides, and a danger zone of spending more money. Like I said, what more could you want?
Hmm, how about a booty contest and a bunch of sexy women? Well that was there, but it's a little x-rated. I will tell you that the naughty school teacher won the cash and made a lot of people very excited. To no surprise, Import Expo brought out the best high end rides and the adrenaline rush of the scene to prove itself one more time it's the best show around.
