I’d like to first thank Garrick and the rest of the SSM staff for letting me cover this years’ Freak Fest. Now, with that out of the way, FREAK FEST 2K4 WAS OUTTA CONTROL! The trucks were out of control, the bands were out of control, and best of all…the girls were out of control. We rolled into Famoso Raceway at 10pm Friday night and already, the sparks were flying. That “I just don’t give a F*@$” feeling was in the air, and $60,000 trucks were railing like 1986 Mazdawgs. After setting up camp and checking out the other rides, we strolled up to the main stage to see some wild girls do their thing, with Déjà vu being one of the main sponsors, you can only imagine how sick it was. After about 2 hours of sleep, I was awakened by the sounds of rides hittin their switches, gnarly sounding v8s, and bodies dragging on the pavement…I can only wish that I had that same wake up call every morning. Freaks own DragnDrz (SSM) was kind enough to stop and talk to us about his 1984 Isuzu pickup. His truck is laid to the door, right hand drive, and to top it off…he’s rockin’ a diesel power plant. After snapping a few shots of the campground, I cruised into the show. The Aftermath crew caught my attention first, simply because of the fact that they are one of the cleanest and most predominate truck crews around. I’d have to say the craziest thing I saw within the show were the two Optiflo rides. Optiflo is designing blown glass for radiator hoses, intakes, fuel lines, vacuum lines, etc… definitely one of the most innovative ideas I’ve seen in a long time.Severed Ties had their, IF Customs built, Chevy full size with the Caddy clip, body dropped, and layin rocker on 24s showing. Devious was showing off their insane body dropped s10. KRZ had an awesome showing as well.

After the show, the insanity began. The Militia was going off, the bands were rockin out, and the dragging madness was at full throttle. The cruise strip was packed full of customs showin’ off their stuff. The rain began to fall and tops began to come off and Freak Fest was in full swing. Looking to the right, the girlies are going wild…to the left, I see the huge “SHOCKER” monster truck thundering down the strip, it was tight. After the rain and hale settled, I walked back to the main stage to check out the headliners, Kottonmouth Kings and Adema, both bands put on a great show. After the bands killed it, the Skin to win contest started and crowd went wild. It didn’t even seem like a truck show at all at that point, it was just a fat ass party with wild chicks and everybody was out to have a drunken good time, I know I was.I’d like to give props to the 125+ Freaks of Nature members for holding down the fort and keeping everybody safe over this insane weekend. Also, I’d like to thank the Kern County Sheriff department for their hand in keeping everybody under control. I CAN’T WAIT FOR NEXT YEARS FREAK FEST AND IF YOU DIDN’T ATTEND THIS YEARS, THEN SORRY FOR YA, YOU MISSED OUT ON A FUN ASS WEEKEND.Photos and text by:Zak Ropple (Truckshc)www.THC4Life.com
