Ever had that feeling when you look at your project that you can take it just a step further? With Chad Larson of Oxford, Mississippi that feeling hasn’t yet subsided but his 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix has sure come a long way from being the touring car of the elderly that GM intended it to be. Purchased in November of 2000 Chad wanted something he could build that wasn’t really being looked at by those in the scene.
After the first set of wheels and tires hit the pavement it was time to drop the stance of this beast. Chad sought the help of Clyde at Silver Star Customs who was able to custom build a pair of strut bags for the rear. Easy Street front bags where then used for the front. With the drop taken care of, Chad chose a set of 18” MKW MK9 wheels with Kumho Ecsta tires for rolling attire. But the car just wasn’t low enough so Chad proceeded to cut the lower strut brackets loose and raise them up giving him an added 1” of drop. Airflow is provided to the bags via 8 3/8” SMC valves and 1/2“ airline. The traditional air management was ditched and this Pontiac now runs on nitrogen. Chad has also installed GM Performance Parts sway bars front and rear.
