Showfest and IF Cruise
Showfest and IF Cruise
With last year being my first Showfest I was anxiously awaiting to make the trip down to Greenville, MS once again to check out some of the highest of quality rides. This year I would do a few things different like joining the IF Custom Cruise to MS. With a 5600 mile round trip for myself and my buddy Ryan things would be pretty interesting for a 7 day jaunt. As we meet up with the cruise in Kingman, AZ, we would chat with a few old friends and meet what would be come many more friends. The good thing about a long cruise like this is you get to actually hang out with a large group of people and get to know them pretty well. If you’ve never done it I’d suggest hitting it up next year for sure.
As we rolled into Greenville we all stopped at the Greenville sign for a group photo. What started out as about 20 people ended up being close to a 100. We look to have it bigger next year so everyone start saving up your duckets now! With pictures taken it was time to hit hotels and then the cruise. With dragging the Wagon through every state we figured we start off by dragging the strip. As usual for most, this would be a week long thing to do. The nightlife Friday night was much better then in past years on the main strip. Everyone seemed to be enjoying himself or herself, drinking, dragging and hanging out. With the night winding down and a show to attend in the morning we’d head back to the hotel and get some shut eye.
As Saturday arrived we’d roll into the show, park with our RA boys and begin the looong day of walking and snapping photos. There seemed to be a lot of clean new rides out as is typical for Showfest. The best of show winner would be a Clean pink and flamed S10 while the best of show car would be a body dropped Caprice touched at every corner. Club participation would go to Relaxed Atmosphere with something like 54 registered vehicles while we actually counted about 70 there in attendance. All in all it was a good show with plenty to look at.
As the night arrived it wouldn’t be Showfest without a rain storm so one decided to dump, and I mean DUMP rain for about an hour or so and then clear up just in time for dinner to be over with and ready to head back on the cruise. As the night moved on a little drama happened, people got beat up, beer bottles thrown, etc. etc… some didn’t enjoy it and others had a blast with it. All in all I think the locals got the idea that we aren’t going to back off from any stupid shit and I know what all happened won’t keep me from going back next year. So as the buzz of the evening was now sobered up it was time to get some shuteye and time to get ready for Sunday.
With Sunday upon us it meant more time in the sun, more walking around and the beginning of a LOOONG ride home. We decided to keep the cameras away this day and just walk around and talk with friends old and new, say our good by’s and gather with those that were on the IF cruise. As 430 approached we’d all gas up, eat and head out only to stop in Louisiana for some photos at some old farm place where Cracker would demonstrate his lack of fear in the middle of no where while climbing a silo to the roof and back down. Crazy! The decision was to drive straight through to Phoenix, which would be a 30 hour drive but would also get us home a lot quicker. All in all it was a great trip, no big problems other then trailer flats and a TON of good times.
