The NYIAS couldn’t be any better expressed by words than amazing. Every year that I have hit this show since the late 90s it has gotten, bigger, better, and the autos have gotten so much more improved. The Javits Center is a great place for this venue because of its unbelievable size, and easy access from the surrounding states. With a short ride over the ferry, and a quick stop at every hot dog stand on the way in you can easily witness one of the coolest shows of the year. If you happen to hit this show next year I strongly suggest that you are standing at the doors before 10am rolls around because the crowds that gather at this show are comparable to the lines that food stores get when they advertise "Free Depends diapers" at the local retirement homes. The big event at the show this year seemed to be the Jeep campaign. Upon entering Jeep had an in-door off road course set up that they where actually using to take people for rides on to show there off road capabilities. After sitting back and watching the Jeeps tackle the giant hill in the middle of the arena, we decided we better hop on and take a quick spin before the line went out the door. It was also interesting seeing how much the jeeps have actually changed since the days when they used to use them as army surplus vehicles in Vietnam, and such. Next stop for us was the first floor, the car showroom. At first glance it almost appeared to be a really high-end car dealership. Each car dealership had their separate displays with booths setup that you could actually order their cars from, or get information on what’s coming out. Another cool thing that each company had setup was a out of the car visual of their engines so you could see what the engine looked like as it was running. Some of the companies that showed up this year where Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Chevy, Dodge, Lexus, Infiniti, Toyota, Ford, Cadillac, Buick, VW, Honda, Acura, and many others. From what I saw I would have to say that some of the most notable debuts this year where the Audi S4 V8 (no longer the V6 bi-turbo motor), the sporty Acura AWD 300hp V6 RL and luxury TSX concepts, Mercedes CLS500 with full air stability control, Rides very own Lexus IS300 with the 4.3L V8 IS430 motor swap and Toyota Supra trans (which I might add had one of the cleanest, most stock looking motor swaps I have ever seen), the 240hp VW R32, and one of my most favorite at the event the Audi RSQ, which will be in Will Smiths new action movie. There was no shortage of sick concepts this year, the only thing this show left me wishing was that I hit big time in the lottery before the release of these cars.

The second floor, the truck and SUV debuts, was also a big hit amongst spectators. It seemed like the next big thing for trucks is huge lifts, and big tires for the 4x4s, and nice drops, thick chrome exhausts, and big rims for the 2wheel drive and sport edition pickups. Walking up to the all white interior, literally, of the new Cadillac pick-up I was almost blinded. From the looks of it things almost seemed like trucks where going to be turned around from the typical work truck, to playing the luxury part of the deal. Some of the hottest SUVs and pick-ups to hit the floors of the show where the all new Dodge Durango, the Chevy SS pickup, the Ford F350 Harley Davidson Edition, Hummers new H3 pickup, and Fords newly updated version of the late Bronco. This show is definitely not the show to miss. If you’re an automotive enthusiast, whether your appetite calls for custom, stock, or concepts, this show feeds your hunger for every aspect of the automotive industry. The other benefit of this show is the intertwining or the customizing industry and the stock view of all the rides that where in attendance. Spectators also got to view the DUB Magazine booth, and the Custom Tuner Showcase in the outside tents. Next year when this show comes to the Javits Center again make sure you take time out of your busy schedules to stop by and see one of our scenes biggest automotive shows.Doug Large
