Since Mother's Day is in May, I thought I would give you guys some insight into my family, my mom in particular. I learned something really valuable from her a couple of weeks ago. You'll never guess what, though!!!! First of all, I work every other weekend and it was my weekend to work. On Sunday, when the alarm went off, I thought "Wow, this place is so nice, they play music while you are sleeping!!" I guess I thought I was already on vacation or something. At 5:45 (I have to be at work by 6), Russell woke me up and asked if I knew it was 5:45. My response was "I don't care." Then he said, "Aren't you at least going to call and let them know you're going to be late?" I replied, "I don't give a ----, they'll figure it out." When I did finally wake up, I called and said, "I guess y'all figured out that I'm not there and I'll be in after while." It didn't really matter though. My boss was even later than me. Guess he partied the night before too.... About 10, my mom called to see if I wanted to come and watch her go skydiving for the first time. I was totally freaked out because my mom is definitely not a risk taker. She has always been the one person in this world who I thought had their feet planted firmly on the ground. So, anyway, I got off work early (yes, I've got it like that!) and hustled to the "Air Adventures" skydiving place that is a couple of blocks from my house. These guys are way cool too! Apparently, there are some of the guys (and girls) that come every weekend and camp out and make a jump every time the plane goes up. There was a pretty wide age gap too. One of the younger ones looked to be about 18 and the oldest one looked to be about 60-ish. There's one guy that hangs on to the side of the plane and tapes everyone jumping and then he jumps and tapes everyone's freefall. I have to admit, I've gotten scared over the last year or so. I think I finally reached that age where you realize that it HURTS if you break a bone and that you can actually DIE from doing idiotic things. I used to go racing lots of weekends, and bungee-jumping, and lots of other crazy things. But I haven't done anything like that in a while.

My mother jumped and when she landed, she looked like every worry that she ever had dropped out of that plane with her. I've never seen her look so relaxed in my whole life. She was also speechless (which she never is). I think the only word she could say was "awesome" and she said it over and over again. I guess the biggest thing that I noticed was that she was never nervous from the time she got there to the time she jumped to the second that she pulled the chute. She's hooked. She cracked her foot when she landed but she's already planning to go again as soon as the cast is off. My mom doesn't even know that she taught me something that day. That's what is so great about moms. They give even when they're not trying too. Basically, when I needed it most, my mom showed me that all I have to do is decide to do something and never look back!!! If it hurts, it just hurts and life goes on. If you fail, you try again. But the most important thing is you don't sit around waiting on life to happen; you take the first step and MAKE it happen. I know this has nothing to do with custom vehicles but let's face it: we are all kind of odd. Some people blow their money on skydiving, some on skiing, and some on body kits, body mods, and other goodies. I guess we are all trying to make life happen for ourselves. Russ and I are making life happen for us this summer. First of all, we are taking a major vacation. Second, we are moving several states away. We plan on leaving Rome, GA around the first or second week of June and heading west to visit all of our buddies between here and California and then we plan to head to the north and hang out with some people we know up there. After that, we plan on heading back to the east coast to come south and take our son, Nicholas, to Disney World before school starts. After that, we will be living in the GREAT state of Texas. We plan to hit as many shows as possible on our trip, whether big or little. Look for us. There's no doubt that we will be in a town near you. (Sounds kind of like a movie trailer, doesn't it?)
