The Way I see it....
How ya'll is? May is here...the beginning of summer and the summer show season are upon us!! Hope everyone stocked up on cleaning supplies and doesn't have to take out a loan to buy gas!
Here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, we had our first official show, DUST OFF 2K1, which also happens to be one of the bigger local ones for our area. Local shows are a great place to meet up with friends you forgot you had and see what everyone has been up to in the off-season.
Now Dust Off is Explicit Concepts' steppin' out show... not only did we step out, we took over that mutha! We had 36 entries, including a majority of our D/FW chapter and several rides from our Houston and Longview/Tyler chapters too. It was beyond cool going downt the freeway and seeing a line of EC logo'ed cars and trucks that stretched at LEAST a quarter of a mile! How's that for showing support for your crew?
The only things that weren't good about this show were the facts that I didn't win anything and I had to go to work from there! Talk about a pisser of a day! Oh well, always the next show!
Me not winning makes for a helluva segway into my thoughts for this go-round...when you show and don't win anything, don't get discouraged, it happens to us all, just some of us more than others!
I know that my truck ain't nuthin' special to anyone but me, and I'm cool with that. Now, every once in a while I get a "Hey man, cool truck!" and that more than makes up for my lack of trophies...that and it make s the old chest swell up with a little bit of pride.
During the off-season, I could've done a lot of things to my truck to make it more of a contender, but I am lazy and I didn't have any money. I know, I know...likely excuses, but they are the truth and that is all I can give you, my faithful readers!
Also on this note, going to any show with the wrong attitude will work against you. I am the type of person that rolls into a show with a defeatist attitude, I know I'm going to get beat. Half the time, I don't even go check out my competition; because I figure it's pointless! Maybe if I changed my point-of-view, I would do a little better, maybe take home a trophy. But then again, I am not in it for fame and trophies; I am in this for a love of the game!
Now, I would like to rant about something very important to me...kids. I know I mention them all the time, but they are our future folks! Teach a kid about mini's now and chances are, they'll want one when they get old enough. Also, when a newbie to the
sport comes up and asks you questions about your ride, just like the 1000 other people before him, don't shun him by acting like a jackass, answer his questions, and give him advice. We need more people involved in our lifestyle and starting them off young is one of many ways to keep it alive!
In closing, I would like to wish the crew at StreetSceneMag.com a VERY HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY!! This keeps getting better by the day fellas!!
Until next time, keep your wheels spinnin' and the beavers grinnin'!!
