Summer Slam
Summer Slam
When I heard that Jay and the crew from Show and Shine Promotions were doing their annual Summer Slam show in Winchester, Virginia I quickly checked my show schedule and made plans to attend. I had attended a couple other shows the S&S crew did and knew that this show would be as good as the others. This is the first year I had made it all the way up to Winchester and had a blast.
The weekend started Friday as soon as I got off work. After I got home, my wife, little girl and I piled in the car and made the 7-hour drive to the show. We arrived late Friday night yet when we pulled into the hotel, several people were sitting outside hanging out. While unloading the car, I ran into Glen from DropJawMag.com and after catching up with him and trying to decide it the weather would hold up, it was off to bed. When we woke up Saturday morning it was pouring the rain, yet I knew that wouldn't stop the show from being great. After a quick bite at Shoney's with my dad and step mom who come down to check out the show, it was off to the fair grounds. Even though the rain didn't seem to want to let up, the line into the show was still backed out into the road when I arrived. Once we merged our way through the show line and got into the show, the rain seemed to let up. I quickly grabbed my camera and headed towards the make shift indoor judging area. Jay and the crew turned a long covered barn type building into the drive through judging lane. This gave show goes the chance to touch up anything missed outside and the ability to open the rides up and not get them wet inside. That was some serious planning on Jay's behalf. About midday the rain seemed to mostly stop except for a few sprinkles and the rides kept piling in. Once the day ended and the judging wrapped up for the day it was time to head back to the hotel and grab a bite to eat.
Sunday morning I was up early and headed back to the show to meet a couple people I had lined up to shoot features on their rides. Once those were done it was time to get a few more pics from the show. Fortunately Sundays weather was much nicer than Saturdays. The crowed seemed to almost double since the sun was out.
Even though half the weekend was plagued with rain, that didn't stop all the planned activities from happening. Jay always hosts a great bikini contest, plenty of club games and a burn out contest that can rival any Saturday night street race. If your anywhere near any of the Show and Shine shows, make sure you add them to your show calendar. My trip was a 7-hour trip one way and it turned out to be worth every minute of the drive. For more information on any of these shows, including this one; check out www.Show-N-Shine.com. I'll be at a couple more of his this year and look forward to seeing everyone there.
