Mardi Gras Nationals
Mardi Gras Nationals
Louisiana is known for a couple things partying, partying and did I mention partying, but lets not forget Mardi Gras which is the grandpappy party of them all. What better reason to have a show in South Louisiana then to have it the same week as Mardi Gras. We all know Mini Truckers LOVE boobs and beer and Mardi Gras definitely has its share of all of the above.
I left Memphis, TN Friday night headed for my home state only; to run into the most rain I think I've ever seen. I've lived in Louisiana almost all my life and I've seen hurricanes bring less rain to the Big Easy then was produced Friday.
I called Gator the show promoter earlier that week to ensure I was still welcome and was told of something about the show I did not know. They were throwing a Fais Do-Do. Ok for those that don't know what a Fais Do-Do is that's a "BIG ASS SOUTH LOUISIANA PARTY". The party was held inside the Lamar Dixon Civic Center because if not the band "The Chee Weez" would have floated away. With plenty of Beer and Crawfish on hand a good time was in order.
Saturday all the rain had moved out of the area and was shaping up to be an awesome day. A little cloudy but still anything was better then Fridays down pours. I was greeted at the gate by the shows promoter Gator and some of his staff who were quick to ask if I was hungry for some good ol' south Louisiana Mud Bugs, crawfish for you Non-Cajun folk, are you crazy of course I was. See Memphis lacks in the Mudbug department. After handling up on a couple pounds of Crawfish and some beers it was time to get to work. See only in South Louisiana can you go to a show were they serve Daiquiris and Beer at the show, no making beer runs to the packy when the ice chest runs out.
With my trusty sidekick Kevin we were off to get some show coverage and meet up with some old and new friends. As we made our way inside the huge Lamar Dixon Civic Center you were instantly met with the sound of Ms Alma Gates Kicker sponsored Bronco and the awesome Godfathers Customs Show Rig. Inside housed some of the most awesome rides South Louisiana and the surrounding areas have to offer. There were vendors booths lining the entire complex with everything from the newest Car Audio demo rides from AudioBahn, Sony, Kicker and Crossfire to Drop Em' Wear selling there complete line of fresh threads.
Outside was no different with over 10 acres of concrete for parking; along with several covered parking areas this was the perfect site for a show. I soon had made my rounds snapping my show coverage shots and making a few commitments for Sunday to feature some bad to the bone rides and it was time to get to the real fun the partying.
Saturday night was completely wild and the Mardi Gras crowd was crazy. The show promoter had made arrangements with a local tour bus company to head to New Orleans for some Mardi Gras action. What more could you ask for then a trip to the Big Easy and not have to worry about how you was going to make it back to your hotel room after drinking yourself under the table. Once we arrived we quickly made our way to the Mecca of partying Bourbon Street. After a couple nice Hurricanes and a few Back Scratchers it wasn't long till me and Kevin were on top of the bar acting like the fools we truly are. Lets just say the girls were not the only people getting naked that night.
After arriving safely back from a night of all out Mardi Gras madness, Sunday morning was one word AWESOME!!!! The weather was a nice 70 degrees of t-shirt weather and it was a great day for a show. I arrived Sunday morning minus my hung over sidekick Kevin and made another round to snap shots of anything that was missed Saturday and anything that had just arrived. As soon as things settled down it was time to go shoot a couple well-deserved features. After rounding up my favorite half dressed cuties I'd met Saturday I was off to work, on the features that is. As daylight fell it was time to say my good byes and thank yous and get on my way back to Memphis.
This year was the first year for Mardi Gras Nationals but I am sure after this years turn out and the amount of quality participants that were in attendance this was the first of many years to come for this awesome show. If you would like more information on this show contact gator@gatorsaudio.com or visit their web site at http://www.mardigrasnats.com.
