After missing this show last year do to my car being in the stereo shop preparing for a big debut show in Florida, I had to make it a point to not miss this years event. And after arriving at the show, it’s a good thing I didn’t because this year’s show was bigger and better than any before. I had to work a few hours that Friday morning and left around lunch for the 4.5 hour drive to Lebanon, Tennessee. The drive there wasn’t so bad do to the fact that we gained an hour cause we crossed a time zone.
We arrived at the show around 5pm or so and surprisingly, the show field was still packed with early entries and people there already just to check out what the weekend had in store. After meeting up with Charlie and getting my press pass and parking pass, it was time head towards the hotel and grab a bite to eat. Luckily our hotel was right behind O’Charleys, so me, the wife and the kid just walked up to the restaurant and sat down for a few. After diner I drove a few blocks down the road to the local car wash and just as I expected, this place was packed with custom rides preparing for the weekends events.
Saturday morning we got an early start to beat some of the crowd and so I could try to line up a few features. We found a good spot to park and set up the tent so we could have a little shade throughout the day. This show always provides tons of stuff for people to watch and even participate in. Everything from a burn out contest, to a hopping contest (air and hydraulics) to even their famous bikini contest. After making a few rounds around the show and getting up with a few guys I hadn’t seen in a while, it was time to head off to the side of the show field and shoot a hand full of features. The weather held out and the features went smoothly. We wound up cutting out shortly after I finished my features so we could get my little girl something to eat. Being O’Charleys was so close, it made since to head there again. This time we wound up sitting down with a few buddies to eat. We decided to make a lap around the 3 hotels that were all together behind the restaurant and talk to a few guys before we headed off to bed.
Sunday’s events were as busy as Saturdays with everyone checking out the rides and making sure everyone was judged. I’ve normally hit this show every other year due to the fact that something winds up coming up in between my visits, but hopefully I wont be missing this show for a while. Plans are already in the making for next year’s event, so for more info check out www.Autoshows.cc.
