EnVus CC Midwest threw but another massive and highly successful car show this weekend. Hundreds of cars showed up to slick down and polish up, pushing the dream of walking away with one of the eight, five-foot plus specialty trophies and one of the many first, second, and third place awards. All sorts and kinds of two and four wheeled rides showed up to compete and show off. Classics, customs, hot rods, fully restored oldies, and literally dozens of sport compacts and mini-trucks packed into the VFW lot. We even had a retired married couple show up with five old Cushman Scooters. And they were the sweetest scooters I can say I have ever seen.
The show began at 8:00 am and at 7:00 am we had people in line waiting to get in. For a re-scheduled event, that we made happen one month after the original was rained out, we were shocked at the turnout. And pleased. The club came through en masse, with nearly every member, and several friends of the club, showing up to help out with setup, registration, judging, and cleanup. The music, DJ'ed by another friend of the club and covered by local radio station 93.7 The Bull was awesome and covered the gamut, from country to rock to hip-hop and techno. No one went away unhappy with the tunes.
Or the coverage.
We had event coverage on radio, three magazines, including this one, and several websites. To my knowledge, short of the NOPI regionals at Gateway Raceway in August, this was the most widely covered car show in the St. Louis region ever.
And next year is promising to be bigger and better. Details are still in the works, but you can expect the number of participants to go up, the classes we cover to change to reflect the repeat participants, and overall, the fun, hype, and draw of the show to expand. Next year we have already gotten offeres for a webcast of the show. Two days after this one wrapped up.
We couldn't be happier with the results. And we want to see you there next year. Expect specific details to develop in early 2003. For details, check in often at www.envuscc.com.
