Its been a bit quiet here in Scottsdale, at least as far as the Focus goes. Some say it’s the calm before the storm. I say that the forecast is definitely for cloudy skies with a hint of rain in the future.
Why so cryptic? Well there are some things brewing in my garage at the moment that may or may not be completed by the next time you see the Focus. In the works are several mods that will definitely turn some heads. It just may take some time to get them completed. That being said, let me give you a sneak preview of whats to come with the Focus, by giving you my general viewpoint on the cars that I build.
There are a few things that I feel are constant to all cool vehicles. For one, they have to be low. Let’s face it, the lower the better. For the moment, I’m pretty happy with where the Focus sits. Of course I was happy with where the Civic sat once many years ago, and then I cut it up. Only time will tell where the Focus ends up. For two, I like vehicles that have a clean rear end. Ok, leave the charmin jokes alone, I like the look of a ride that has nothing in the back of it – taillights, license plate, nothing. The Civic was a good example of that, being devoid of pretty much everything in the back. The Focus is going to be a bit different, as I’m keeping the taillights for the moment, but the general look is going to be the same. For three, I like a clean, simple vehicle. I always felt that my civic never looked too busy or too overdone. Not like some rides out there with huge wings, massive body kits, and graphics that don’t quite fit. If I ever decide to do graphics on the Focus, they will be simple and clean. Crazy tribals and nutty flames aren’t my style. Finally, I love sliders. I did my first one in the civic three years ago, and it got me hooked. So far every one of my rides since has had one. That being said, let me lay out some of the plans for the Focus.
First off, its getting shaved. Handles, trunk box, squirters, roof rack holes and possibly the gas door are getting ditched. The car is also going to get a color change eventually, and if you can’t guess what color, then you haven’t been paying much attention to my interior. Once again I’m going with House of Kolor paint.
I had such a good experience with it the last time that I’m going with it again. I’m also in the process of peeling the tint off of the car, and adding a billet wheel. NRC in Texas recently sponsored me, and I’m getting a new wheel as soon as we can get an adaptor built. I’m also wrapping the seats in tweed and ultraleather, and I’m doing lots of chrome on the suspension.
Now for this month, we’re going to cover performance. I’ve added some hop ups to the Focus, and I’m sure that all of you out there with Focii will be interested in this, so read on.
PERFORMANCE
One of the companies that helped out this month is Focus Sport. Focus Sport is a relative newcomer to the performance scene, but has one great thing going for it; they know the Focus. The guys over there are great too, and are more than willing to help out with any technical questions you might have.
So last month, a nice package came in the mail to me from Focus Sport. In it was a set of yellow spark plug wires and an intake. Follow along with me as we install these bad boys on the wagon.

Step 1: These are the plugs from Focus Sport. They come in a variety of different colors, but I chose yellow to match with everything else.
