Well after my flight from Boise to Oklahoma City, I was ready to sit down and chill. Scott and Jeff from Lower Level picked me up from the airport and made sure to take care of me for the night. After dropping off my things at the Hotel and knocking on Ashley’s door (freelancer for Mintruckin’ and Street Trucks) like the damn police, it was time to hit a bar. While there, Kevin and Trevor from Pleasures met us to have a few brews and just chill. Other then the slight Okie accents, and lack of drama, it seemed pretty much like what I was used to. Living the life of an Okie, I guess it wasn’t so bad. After getting back to the hotel around a quarter to 2, I didn’t feel it was time to sleep so I proceeded to hunt down Doug and the IV Everlow Kansas guys to see what they were up to. To my surprise I found them on my first attempt. Although Doug hung up on me after a short conversation (he said someone else hung the phone up) I attempted to find their room again. This time it took me 3 attempts because of the uneducated front desk person. This time Doug proceeded to fill me in on how the headboards could easily be removed from the walls. Don’t ask me why he was telling me this, but…well anyway. It was now time to rest for Saturday’s events. Well 8:30 comes pretty early when you end up going to bed at like 3, but it’s all good. On the way out of the hotel to hit the show, I saw that Ashley was still there. I found this strange specially since she said she was going to leave by 8:30. So I proceeded to kick her door till she answered to make sure she was awake. Hehe…. Once we arrived at the show I was seeing badass rides starting to set up throughout the raceway. After walking around and checking things out for a while I decided it was time to sit down and talk with Tom from ST Texas for a bit. As sitting there, we noticed many more rides and I started thinking, “damn…. now I have some decisions for features.” Okay If I have to think about it then usually that is a good sign. 10:30 rolled around and I was noticing that the majority of the rides were set up so it was time to venture on with covering the show.

After walking around the show and wrapping up a couple of photo shoots it was time to get a bit to eat (or lack there of) and clean up. The Pleasures guy’s made sure to make fun of me…I mean take care of me at dinner. Aaaahhhh…..now nice and cleaned up and ready to go back and see what this party of Lowdown Showdown is all about. When we arrived back at the track, I ran into Chas who finally arrived. He then showed me what I already had missed. A Catfight! Ripping cloths off and pulling hair! But don’t worry he got pics! After seeing the pics it was time to go retrieved the golf cart that Ashley and I were using earlier that day. With it we made sure to entertain as many people as possible. Whether it was playing bumper carts or chicken we made sure that all six of us, on the 2 seater, were having a blast. Okay, now the time that all were awaiting and which I had no idea was going to be so crazy. Yep you guessed it, the Bikini (or lack there of) contest! With getting Chas and myself up on each side of the stage, we made sure to cover this event completely for our audience. In order to bring more money to the girls competing, the guys from Lower Level auctioned off the water gun duties. With this they ended up getting the winner $785! Well, we have a few pictures for all of you, so hope you enjoy. After a good nights rest, Sunday had some drag racing in store along with the awards ceremony. After watching many 12 and 13 second Honda’s along with 10 and 9 second RX-7’s it was time to see which rides captured the judges eyes. With Subculture grabbing club participation, and Kevin Blackshere getting Best of Show, the majority of the rides I expected to win did just that. I would like to thank the crew of Lower Level for getting me down to the show. I had a blast and will be sure to return next year. By Garrick ArendsCoverage continued next page >>
