On most cars and trucks today the roofs are done on an over the rail setup. What I mean by this is that the roof is spot welded on over the top of the pillar rails and then seam sealed over. What you have to do to get to the spot welds on a car and most trucks is remove the front and back windows. You will also have to take out the drip rail rubbers. There is window sealer that you will have to remove as well, to do this use a brand new razor and scrape it away carefully.

You can also use a crud thug, or 3m red grinding disk. After you do that you will need to drill out the spot-welds with a spot weld drill (these are made so that you don’t drill through the other levels of the metal). ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN USING THESE TOOLS! Next you will need to pop the spot welds and make sure everything is disconnected from the roof. In my case I removed the canvas top on the ragtop, and cut the center of the roof out.
