GoodGuys - Dallas
Waking up early that Saturday morning I knew it was going to be a great day. After meeting up with Angel and some of the guys we headed out to the Texas Motor Speedway for one of the biggest hot rod shows the Dallas area has to offer. Goodguys has been a common name in the rodding world and has been around since 1986. When you hear Goodguys you can guarantee you are going to get a good taste of some of the finest Rods, Customs, Classics, Muscle Cars and Trucks. Just remember they don't allow anything after 1972.
As I entered the speedway I was in awe. How could you pack this many cars and trucks into one area? Everything I could ever dream of from 32 Ford coupes to 49 Mercs to a pick of every wagon ever made spread out before me as far as I could see. Walking through the show grounds I noticed if you are looking for a new project this is the place to go. Every style of work from fully painted to just beginning caught my attention for each unique ride. Just be prepared if you want a finished project to not leave home without at least 30K in your pocket. I can't tell you guys how many cars I saw with 50+ price tags.
Well, after lunch I headed over to the midway to check out some of the vendors that set up shop at the Goodguys event. Everyone you could think of from Sachse Rod Shop, Vintage Air, and SoCal Speed Shop was there. We even got to see the new Boyd car on display. Both the show grounds and vendor row offered all kinds of entertainment. Each area had great pin stripers young and old doing their part in preserving that hot rod image. Wow and don't let me forget all the clothing company's selling shirts and clothing that sent me home broke.
After leaving vendor row we trotted on over to see the top 10 trucks and cars of 2003. Goodguys knows how to throw a show; they even had a top 10 for Texas vehicles. On Saturday afternoon Goodguys hands out the top owners and selects an area at each show for the top of the top to show off their creations. Your pick, whether it was painted to pure perfection and every little detail to keeping that original image, the top 10 area had something for everyone. Well before I knew it we were approaching 5pm and once again my wife proved me wrong. Why did I think I could run over to a rod show and expect to spend any less than 8 hours of my day drooling over these awesome rides? If you ever get a chance in your area to attend a Goodguys event I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.
