Made to Drag
Happy New Year, and welcome to the first edition of SSM for 2002. This past year was quite a roller coaster ride for the Gulow family. Luckily we made it through unharmed, and with some new experiences to add to our history. So journey with me as I recap some things, and give you some untold things that happened.
While some things were harder than others in 2001, some of the things that ranked as being hard that turned out okay are: buying our first house, sending our son off to Kindergarten at a new school, and for me; worrying about both of my trucks being out of state getting work done. Buying the house felt like I was signing my life away, and the paper work seemed thicker than some of the books I've read (yes, occasionally, I do read books). Our son going to a new school was harder for his mother and I than it was for
him. Nicholas went from being in a single classroom school to being in a primary school where he's got hundreds of kids and lots of rooms. Me worrying about both my trucks was not an issue with quality, but more mother nature, time, and not being able to ride across town to check on them. I said Mother Nature because soon after dropping my trucks off it flooded all around the shops they were in. Now that it's over I can say that these situations have all turned out okay. The house still needs a little work, but it's grown on me quite a bit, Nicholas loves his school, and although my trucks are not finished yet, they are both home and better then they were when I left them.
As I've mentioned before, the summer of 2001 was great going to shows and meeting people. Fast forward from the end of summer to November 3. The scene is Tampa Florida, and some friends are having dinner after a long day on the show grounds. One of the friends mentions that he's set a goal for himself to drag in front of as many Police stations as he can, and get it on tape. Granted this plan has some flaws, but we as his friends were set to make it happen at least once. Now that the dream was floating in the air, the players were ready to take stage. Three vehicles headed for the road where the Hillsborough County Jail, and Sheriff's department were. The moon was out. The sky was clear. The group of friends piled into the three vehicles were excited at what was about to take place, and for a brief moment the world would seem like a perfect place. Two trucks took the lead side by side. The third (the camera vehicle) brought up the rear. Test sparks flew as each driver made sure all equipment was functioning as it should.
Patiently they waited. Wait, wait, wait, NOW, sparks flew happily into the night sky as the two lead trucks lost air pressure to meet with mother earth. Not to be left out the third truck met mother earth, and for a moment the world was perfect. Then reality struck as the light in front of the Sheriff's Department stopped us, and we realized that not only did we have to stop, but also there were Sheriff's Deputies standing outside watching the whole thing. The story ends well though, as the trucks drove off without any blue lights behind them.
Christmas came quicker this year, it seemed. Santa (AKA MiniTruckerChic, AKA Brandi) bought me some new Playstation games I wanted, some clothes, and a digital camera, which I hope to get plenty of use out of. It did however take my dad coming out from Oklahoma to visit to get excited about the camera. Mainly because I couldn't get it to interface with my computer to download the pictures I was taking. Thanks go to my dad since he got it to work, and for making me not want to return a cool present.
Thursday, December 27th is a day I wished I had stayed in bed. I got up early. Got out of the shower before usual, and was actually going to make it to work on time, if not a few minutes early. That's when things got going in the wrong direction. I got in the dually, hit the front switch, hit the back switch, and started down the driveway. Okay I know you think that's normal, and on any given morning it is, but not this morning. I had no steering as I was attempting to leave the driveway for work. A few foul descriptions of things later, I backed the dually back into the driveway as good as possible. I resumed my task of going to work in Brandi's Tahoe since I wasn't sure of what was wrong, or how to fix it. As you can imagine, I went over all the possibilities, and all the different things to do. Later that day, after work, and after dealing with two towing services the dually finally made it to the GMC place for repairs. Friday afternoon rolled around and I was able to pick up the dually that was fixed under warranty which was way cool. In the end the truck is now in the driveway once again rolling with steering.
That about wraps things up for 2001. To everyone I say Happy New Year, and wish everything went in a positive way for you in the coming year. Until next month keep it low, keep it clean, and avoid speed bumps.
