Made to Drag
Happy New Year! Last year was definitely different for me in a lot of ways, but I'm looking forward to 2001 with a greater appreciation of life. So sit back, lay your ride out, and we'll cruise into 2001.
The year of 2000 can, and will be, remembered for a lot of things. To me, it was a year of doctors, rehab, making new friends, spending time with old friends, and rekindling the relationship with my wife, and son. I'm proud to say though that I'm finally to where I can walk without a cane and will be going back to work in Jan. Sounds like fun, huh? I can honestly say I'm going to miss being at home. I've grown used to being able to get up, get Nicholas ready for school, have breakfast with him, and being there when he gets out of school. I've also gotten to where I like to cook, and I must say I'm pretty good at it. Other things you figure out being the domestic husband is the right way to fold towels. Yeah, that's right. Women have certain ways of doing things that we, as males, don't always understand. At first my wife would just go behind me and change whatever it was. Then, one day she said "If your going to be home doing this stuff, this is how you do it." I still cook a better turkey than her.
Other things that stick out to me in 2000 are the times when I found myself missing people that I've known who've passed on. As anyone that has lost someone close knows, you find yourself at times going, "Hey, where's so and so?" or "He would have like to have seen this." Life is so short, and we as a society take it for granted most of the time. Let the people you care about know it before you don't have the chance.
So what's new for me in 2001 besides going back to work? Well, besides finally hoping to finish my Nissan, and wanting to move to Texas if possible. The Nissan has become a project that I have yet to see the light at the end of the tunnel with, except the visions in my head. It's been primed for over a year, and needs some life brought back into it. I feel like I'm at the point where you either get wild with it, or you sell it. So I've taken the time to write down what I want, and have talked to a few shops who will be employed to help get the visions out of my head and into reality on the Nissan. Hopefully sometime between now and THW 2001 it'll get done, and be ready to show. Moving to Texas has been something that Brandi and I have wanted to do for a couple years now. Yes, we're a little nervous about the whole thing, but sometimes change is good. Change of scenery, people you hang out with, and where you work can make a difference in the way you look at life.
As I close for January there are some people I'd like to thank for the support they gave me over the last year. Garrick Arends and Kris Bloom for letting me have a spot on their cool website, my dad (who after retiring from the Army went back to college and graduated in December 2000, and who I'm very proud of), Chad "little shop" Mushlitz, Lance Martz, Dr. Bowerman, who put this cool titanium in my leg so I can walk, all my brother's/sister's in Severed Ties, the friends I've made from Negative Camber, James "Pancake" Shortway, Jon Wilkens, Corey Higginbotham for helping work on the Nissan, my family, and the two people who've been there no matter what my wife Brandi and my son Nicholas. I look forward to hanging with everyone this show season.
Until next month,
Russell
